SoulTsunami: Sink or Swim in New Millennium Culture by Leonard Sweet

(From the Acknowledgments and Introduction)

SoulTsunami was written to expunge the modern mustiness that has been "brewed God knows how long" in the church. More importantly, SoulTsunami was written to advocate the exciting new advantages for the body of Christ in postmodern culture.

This book is an early warning signal intended to wake us up and keep us awake.

Wake up and smell the future.

Wake up on the right side of history.

Wake up and breathe in the cold, arctic air of a moribund modernity.

Wake up and breathe out the fire of a postmodern future -- with all its omens, amens, and amends.

This book is based on the belief that a flood tide of a revolution is cutting its swath across our world and is gathering prodigious momentum. The term postmodern ("pomo" for short) is used to denote a 40-year transition from an Information Age to a Bionomic Age that will begin no later than 2020. My generation (the Boomers) and our children (Gen-Xers and Net-Gens) are the transitional generations to this new world. The Net-Gens (those born after 1981) will be the first ones to really live the majority of their time in the new world. We Boomers will make it to the river, but we won't cross over. The crossover to a post-pomo world will be made by the generations that follow ours.

This is an extraordinary moment in history. God wants you to do some extraordinary things. You can do some extraordinary things. Will you? The choice is yours.

God is birthing the greatest spiritual awakening in the history of the church. God is calling you to midwife that birth. Are you going to show up?
